Tick Awareness

After abundant seasonal rains in the East Cape, Pepper Ticks may be encountered. Although these ticks do not carry Lyme disease, they can transmit Tick Bite Fever. This condition can be treated with a general antibiotic, with symptoms resembling those of a regular flu or cold. Use a tick repellent with DEET and long-acting insect repellent for clothing, especially after exposure to ticks.

Eye and Sun Protection

Ensure you have an extra pair of glasses or an adequate supply of contact lenses. Dark glasses are recommended for early mornings and late afternoons to protect your eyes from the intense sun. Additionally, they serve as eye protection during open vehicle travels. Use a high SPF sunblock (at least SPF 30) to guard against the strong African sun.
