Hakun and Helen Djurhuus joined Eastcape & Karoo Safaris for a safari in March 2016. Hakun has hunted with us several times over the past ten years. Having hunted most of the plains game we have to offer, Hakun was after the elusive blue duiker as his main trophy.
Hakun arrived with his wife Helen and parents in law Henning and Jessie. It was good to see Hakun again and to finally meet his wife Helen. We headed to Hakuns favourite River Bush Lodge. A view from our rooms……
Day 1 we started off at the shooting range and we were off to a good start with good grouping from my 300 wm. We spent the morning looking for a blue wildebees and although seeing a lot of game we saw no shooters. We headed back for luch at the lodge to rest from the heat.
The afternoon we continued after the blue wildebees and it wasn’t long and we bumped a large herd. At the back were two large bulls and Hakun made a great first shot and this magnifecent old bull went down.
Day 2 we had set up to go after the elusive blue duiker. It was raining lightly when we headed down into the thickets with the dogs. Once we got going it wasn’t long and the dogs had pushed one past us giving us the slip. The second beat we were prepared and Hakun got this beautiful ram with one shot flying at high speed. A memorable hunt on a sought after trophy.
We went back to our main area and went looking for an ostrich and a white blesbuck. We were finding out quickly that an alert ostrich is not the easiest thing to hunt….
Finally we got this big female bird which is to be turned into a purse for Helen. On the way we spotted a good white blesbuck ram. Another good shot !
On a misty morning on Day 3 we headed back towards the coast to hunt for a grey duiker. With beautiful views and rolling hills overlooking the sea – we spent the morning glassing for duiker. Eventually we were able to get this old ram. Well done Hakun.
We skinned the duiker and were soon on our way. Enjoyed a quick lunch in Kenton overlooking the river mouth and went back out looking for our last trophy…. an impala. For the afternoon we were able to get this magnificent old impala ram at close range.
Another great safari…….
